Continuing Interest

Five areas of interest form the broad framework of AAUW’s program. Following is a brief summary of each continuing interest area which underscores AAUW’s mission of promoting equity and education for all women and girls.

PUBLIC POLICY – Informs members of pertinent issues and bills at the federal, state and local levels; develops branch legislative concerns and actions; and supports organizations having similar legislative goals.

DIVERSITY – Continues to promote and expand diversity and social justice initiatives in all aspects of AAUW and help all members further diversity throughout the community through cultural sensitivity, understanding, training and education.

EDUCATION  EQUITY – Seeks improvement in the quality and availability of education from early childhood through adult years with special concern for women; promotes adequate financial support; advocates more and better libraries and learning centers; and encourages individual educational growth and development.

INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS – Concerned with the understanding of foreign policy, peace initiatives, distribution of wealth and resources, and the political implications; balance of power and world trade; and our roles in international give and take.

SOCIAL ACTION – The different ways we live, our values, our expressions of what we feel, perceive, and think in aesthetic and scientific terms characterize the substance of this group. Serves to encourage study, creative thinking, new program ideas, and action options on current social issues.
