The Public Policy Study Group meets monthly, September through June, to discuss or/or listen to speakers regarding issues based on the AAUW and AAUWMI Public Policy Priorities. These can be found on the National AAUW Website and the Michigan AAUW Website
Our schedule this year has included:
Listening to and discussing an interview with Kristen Du Mez, author of Jesus and John Wayne: How Evangelicals Corrupted a Faith and Fractured a Nation.
Marcia Gershenson, Oakland County District Commissioner, spoke about the issues and work done by the commission relative to AAUW priorities.
Discussing Election Results and how they fit with our mission.
A presentation by N’Kenge Gonzalez, AAUWMI DEI director, regarding the DEI activities and programs available on the AAUW website and how they can be used by branches or other groups to increase our awareness of the issues relating to branch membership and activities.
David A. Dulio, Professor of Political Science Department and Director of the Center for Civic Engagement at Oakland University, will be discussing the recent election and his take on the effects for the future. David Dulio is also a former American Political Science Congressional Fellow on Capitol Hill where he worked in the U.S. House of Representatives.
David Dulio was kind enough to invite us to join the Oakland University Office Hour presentation on the increase of antisemitism especially on college campuses. In conjunction with Elizabeth Snyder, Diversity chairperson, we met at the Holocaust Center for a docent led tour.
We have two more discussions scheduled – Critical Race Theory, “Dis” and “Mis”, a LWV PowerPoint.
All meetings of the group are on the second Wednesday of the month at 2:30. All members of the branch and possible future members are welcome to attend.
