TOGETHER  WE  ARE  CREATING  A  RIPPLE  EFFECT

 Since its inception over 100 years ago, the AAUW Birmingham Branch has advocated for, and raised funds to provide, educational and empowerment opportunities for women and girls. In the last 14 years alone, our dedicated members have raised over $160,000 to give hope to local women and girls as they work to achieve their dreams. This report presents many of the details of our scholarship work and provides insight into the scope of all the charitable work we do for our local community. and highlights the ways we strengthen and nurture our Branch membership.

As women, we have been fortunate to have had the support that enabled us to attain our educational goals, and it is natural that we invested in our families and in our communities with those educational opportunities. Our AAUW Branch’s 188 dedicated member volunteers extend that investment by sponsoring scholarships for local women that create a ripple effect in our larger communities.

What is the ripple effect?  The effect starts with a scholarship that enables a woman to begin or recommit to her educational goals, creating pathways to a career that has the potential to improve her health, well-being, and economic stability for a lifetime. Each of the women who have benefitted from one of our scholarships becomes a symbol of success to her own family members and to others within her neighborhood. The ripple continues as our scholarship beneficiaries become tomorrow’s benefactors with the promise of expanding the outreach to uplift others and create positive changes for all who are touched.
