Community Outreach

In addition to volunteering at local organizations throughout the year, the Birmingham Branch has selected several local charities to receive donations collected at the luncheons.

October:  Big Family of Michigan

Big Family of Michigan is a non-profit organization helping to make life better for children waiting to be adopted.  Volunteers work with organizations to provide the love, care and items foster children need to be successful adults.  Beginning in October, they wrap thousands of presents for Christmas. They start early because they service children and teens in the Upper Peninsula as well as the lower.
Items Needed:  Footballs; Clothing for children and teens, boys and girls. Jackets, size 24 months especially.  Toys and games that children and teens would enjoy.

November: Bound Together

This is an organization of kids, parents/guardians, volunteers and program partners working together to provide a caring nurturing community in the city of Pontiac. This organization provides a program for students Tuesday – Thursday during the school year. This Program consists of “downtime” between school and tutoring, 1:1 tutoring for students, a hot meal and bus service home.  During the holidays, students are given an opportunity to select gifts for the significant adults in their lives.  They need donations of holiday gifts for adults.  They can be new, or very gently used.   If it is a gift you would be delighted to accept, then it will be acceptable the these parents and grandparents.
Items needed:  Bath items, manicure sets, hand lotion, scarves, gloves, umbrellas, shaving items, after shave lotion, socks, umbrellas.  Larger sized slippers for both men and women are always a hit.

December: Haven of Oakland County

Haven is a nationally recognized nonprofit leader that provides programs to promote violence-free homes and communities, by assisting victims of domestic violence.  Their mission is to eradicate sexual assault and intimate partner violence and heal those affect by its injustices.
Items needed:  Food, toiletries, baby items, queen sized pillows and household supplies.
